Sowing of hemp has started in Lithuania
Agrosfera UAB, a partner of company Natūralus Pluoštas UAB, has signed contracts with 35 Lithuanian companies and farmers to grow hemp in the area of 1500 hectares.
The company has delivered more than 100 tons of hemp seeds for farmers which are active in the area of Kaunas, Kedainiai and Jonava and sowing has started. It is expected to harvest 18-21 thousand tons of hemp for processing. Next year it is planned to use 3000 hectares.
Agrosfera UAB supply hemp seeds, fertilizers and consults in all stages while growing hemp. The company also takes care of harvesting, transportation and payments in order to supply Natūralus Pluoštas UAB.
Hemp is grown for fiber and harvested before the maturity of seeds to obtain highest quality fiber afterwards. Hemp has modest requirements as to the soil and is highly resistant to pests and diseases. Its cultivation does not require the use of herbicides, fungicides, insecticides, so is called ecological crop. Industrial hemp is widely used in textile, construction, non-woven, pulp and paper, food and biofuel production industries.
Hemp is an attractive rotation crop. It is able to overpower the weeds and helps restore degraded soil prior to its preparation for the future sowing.
